Heel Pain: Plantar Fasciitis

One of the most common injuries among runners, joggers and tennis players is plantar fasciitis, pain on the underside of the heel.

A group of tissue called the plantar fascia extends from your five toes, affixed to the underside of the foot on the floor of the heel. If you, land run on the heel and raise yourself onto your toes as you shift your weight to your other foot, so that all your weight held up by your plantar fascia. This force can be repetitiveTear the fascia from its attachment to the heel.

Several factors increase force on the fascia, such as shoes, the stiff soles that do not bend to the right place, right behind the ball of your big toe, shoes, the width for your feet, running too fast for the current strength of your plantar fascia, or not enough time to recover quickly between training sessions. It can also be the first site of pain in arthritis. Doctors have no medications that should help, the plantar Fascia. Cortisone injections and aspirin-like pills can reduce pain, but they can also delay healing.

If you are plantar fasciitis, are no longer running and limiting walk until you feel able to run without pain. As one of the knees and hips and place little force on the fascia pedal, you can feel in control pedal a bicycle without pain. Use shoes that have flexible soles. Enter deposits that limit the vehicles to move your feet, stretch your calf muscles and wear night> Rails. Surgery to the plantar, called fasciotomy is cut, usually ineffective or even prevent healing. I have some patients with infractible pain, unconventionally treated with 10 mg / day alindronate for three months.

Some podiatrists now offer a non-surgical treatment for plantar fasciitis, that does not respond to conventional treatments. The Food and Drug Administration has approved heal the Dornier EPOS extracorporeal shockwave machine that has been shown to be persistentPlantar fasciitis. If your heel pain has not been cured by others, check to see a podiatrist, if extracorporeal shock wave treatment is suitable for you.
